BROOKVILLE - New East Central girls soccer coach Cathy Sopcisak's debut was a rousing success. Lady Trojans, coached by Jim Lockwood senior during their highly successful previous 13 seasons, didn't miss a beat Monday, routing host Franklin County 11-0. Senior forward Amber Ginn tallied a total of five goals, including four in the first half as EC blew out to a 7-0 lead at intermission. Junior right wing Paige Wiedeman scored East Central's first goal of the season, off an assist by senior Michaela Cline, at 35:38 in the first half. Ginn booted home the first of her five goals on the evening minutes later to make it a 2-0 contest. Cline finished a shot for her team's third goal with 17:28 remaining in the first half. Sophomore midfielder Kay Epling raised the margin to 4-0 before Ginn capped the lopsided first half with a flurry of three additional goals. As the second half got under way, Ginn quickly knocked through her fifth goal of the game, increasing the damage to 8-0. But East Central was far from finished. Sophomore Maggie McMullen scored her first varsity goal on a head ball with 25:25 remaining to make it 9-0. Senior forward Cailey Ruhe found net, as result of an FC misplay, with just under five minutes remaining for the 10-0 lead. Senior midfielder Samantha Chriswell tacked on the final EC goal with less than 35 seconds on the clock. East Central totalled 25 shot attempts on goal in the victory, while registering its first Eastern Indiana Athletic Conference win of 2010, and the first career coaching victory for Sopcisak, a Lady Trojan soccer graduate. Trojan girls varsity travels to Lawrenceburg tonight (Thursday) for its second conference match. |
